In a surprising crossover event that defies usual expectations, Ubisoft has unveiled an digital crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, including no-cost bonus story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Uncovered

According to the formal announcement, "An unusual encounter draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where hints of forbidden ceremonies and monstrous changes reverberate through the shadows." The storyline features a "strangely garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a secret group.

The mission concentrates on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying adversary" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Changes

The preview highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer concludes with a dramatic scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, changing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Items and Extra Features

Players who finish the adventure will receive an unique katana together with multiple items secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps mount

Latest Free Story Update

This patch also brings the game's third no-cost story episode, titled "The Enigma." This humorous adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature techniques: Naoe debuts a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Crossovers

This marks hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime properties. The series previously showcased a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally included a quest that unmistakably echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
